AFSCME Rhode Island Retirees Chapter 94
AFSCME Rhode Island Retirees Chapter 94 was founded on March 12, 1980 in cooperation with AFSCME International and Council 94. Brother John H. Slaven, Jr. (Chapter 94 first president), Executive Director Giovanni (Papa John) Folcarelli, International Vice-President Dominic Badolato worked with AFSCME’s International Retiree’s Director Diane McMahon in order to establish our Chapter. Since 1980 the AFSCME Retiree Program is an expanding national network of retired public sector workers.
AFSCME Retiree Chapters national membership has almost tripled, growing from 60,000 to more than 230,000 dues-paying retirees in 38 chapters and 250 local subchapters. It’s the largest organization of public-sector retirees in the U. S. and the fastest growing retiree organization in the labor movement.
From union headquarters in Washington, D.C., the Retiree Program is helping to protect Social Security and Medicare. It’s the leading voice for public-sector retirees on Capitol Hill and in the senior citizen community. The Retiree Program also helps chapters around the country mount their own campaigns to preserve and enhance employer-sponsored retirement benefits.
Chapter 94 works along with AFSCME to protect your pension benefits and retiree health care here in Rhode Island.
Chapter 94 keeps the good fight going, by fighting to keep what we earned. Activities include making phone calls, sending e-mails, writing letters and attending events. Additionally, Chapter 94 coordinates many fun social outings and trips.
Monthly Meetings are the second Tuesday of the month (except for June, July and August)) at 1:00 P.M. at Council 94’s office, 1179 Charles Street, North Providence, RI.
